Why do they call it Indian Summer?

This is the mildest autumn in an age, and the flowers are still blooming, the bugs are going nuts. There's still a world out there, when we get up from the desk....

Wonderful shots! I recognize the ladybug, and I've seen the one that looks like a leaf, but I don't know what any of them are called. Names please?
